Postdoctoral Scholar Position

The Institute for Software Research has a full-time Postdoctoral Scholar position available in the areas of areas of computer games, virtual worlds and interactive technologies. The scholar is expected to be involved in or responsible for the following:

 

a. Carrying out comprehensive research in computer game-based virtual worlds or informatics with a focus on applying resulting insights to a variety of application domains and systems.

 

b. Presenting research results through conference and journal publications, and technical reports.

 

c. Supervising any students working on the project.

 

Academic qualifications include an MFA degree in Visual/Studio Arts production, and Ph.D. degree in Visual Studies (e.g., Film & Media Studies / Art History). Additionally, the candidate should have MS degree or equivalent in computer science or engineering.

 

Results from prior research must be widely published through academic publications, popular press, and work must be extensively exhibited internationally in media arts festivals, galleries and museums. Candidate must have over ten (10) years of experience in media arts practice. A history of winning international awards in the field is highly regarded. Previous work must include biologically controlled robotic systems, robotic art, internet art, telerobotics, bookworks, mixed reality systems, arcade cabinets and mobile vehicles.

 

Candidate must have post-secondary interdisciplinary teaching experience in computer games within the contexts of computer science, humanities and art. Candidate must have a strong record of community service in the media arts and D.I.Y. communities.

 

The duration of the appointment is dependent in part on the availability of extra-mural funding. The minimum annual starting salary for this position will be $35,500.
