Dynamic Architecture-based Adaptation of Distributed Software Systems: Techniques and Tools

Abstract: Systems that can adapt their structure and behavior at run-time are always desirable, and sometimes necessary in domains that require 24x7 reliability. Adapting systems based on their high-level design, or architecture, has proven to be a promising technique, but most research thus far has addressed dynamism within a single process, rather than in a distributed context. My presentation will outline some issues and potential solutions to doing dynamism in a distributed context, as well as demonstrate some of the techniques in software.

Bio: Eric Dashofy is a Ph.D. student at the University of California, Irvine. His advisor is Richard Taylor. He maintains the xADL 2.0 language and its tool set, as well as the ArchStudio 3 architecture-based development
environment.
